[android-developers] Placing focusable & clickable views in a custom expanded view in the notification bar

Hi!

Has anyone tried to put Views, e.g. Buttons, into a list item of the
notification bar?
In my opinion this would be really helpful for actions that should be
accessible in a very fast manner, like activating/deactivating WiFi or
the 3G network. In fact I saw something like this implementet on the
Samsung Galaxy S device, and now I am trying to achieve the same for
all devices.

I created a custom Notification using this guide:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/notifiers/notifications.html#CustomExpandedView

Placing two buttons in my own layout was easy. But here is the
problem: The class RemoteViews ( http://developer.android.com/reference/android/widget/RemoteViews.html
) has a method called setOnClickPendingIntent(int viewId,
PendingIntent pendingIntent), but it doesn't seem to work. The
buttons are not focusable nor clickable, only the whole list item as
such is clickable. And when it is clicked the PendingIntent of the
notification is executed, not the PendingIntent of one of my buttons.

Any suggestions?

[id-android] WTA : all about droid

dear suhu2 moto droid,

kiranya segitu dulu pertanyaan ane seputar droid, maaf kalo kebanyakan.

Thanks in advance,

[android-developers] live stream error

I am making a basic activity to stream this live show
http://ice2.securenetsystems.net/WHBRM here is the pastebin of my
activity http://pastebin.com/N5g69j7i

I realize that it is better to be in a service but this is just a
test. Anyways it seems to be working fine except for in froyo my
error listener gets an unknown error about every 10 seconds.
Infolistener and bufferinglistener are also never called.

my hack of sorts using the errorlistener to catch the error and
restart the stream is working but since the error happens every 10
seconds or so it is making the audio very choppy.

I also get a system log that says MediaPlayer error (1, -2147483648)
before each crash
also AwesomePlayer Not sending buffering status because duration is
unknown.

I assume the second error is because its a live stream and it has no
end, however how do you handle that case.

Thanks in advance!

Just tried it between my G1 & N1, and it does just send a Market link.
Cancel yellow alert.

Thank you NightGospel!

Hi Nando,

When a package is installed or removed, system will broadcast out the
messages: "android.intent.action.PACKAGE_ADDED" or

You can write a broadcast receiver to capture such broadcasts and
don't forget to define data scheme ("package") for receiver.

[android-developers] Re: Can I start a new activity that’s not specified in the AndroidManifst.xml file?

Well, yes, that is the obvious response. For by design, every Activity
must be declared in the manifest. That is WHY it is named 'manifest':
it is like the manifest that a shipper fills out, listing all the
goods in the shipment.

But I am curious what programming problem Snap believed was best
solved by making the dynamic code an Activity. I don't believe such a
step really is necessary, Snap's choice of this step is probably based
on a misunderstanding of the nature of an Android Activity; but until
Snap tells us more about the programming problem, I can't be sure.

Re: [android-developers] Simple drawing sample, I seem to miss something

Can anyone help me to understand this ?
It's as if something clears the screen inbetween my drawing calls.

I can get similar incomplete drawings with other sequences too :-(

Is there a way to figure out which events are on the queue for the UI
thread while debugging ?

Re: [android-developers] Re: ContentProvider onCreate() onDestroy()

You shouldn't leave open transactions.  Generally the expectation is that upon returning from an insert or whatever the corresponding transaction has been committed.

[android-developers] Re: Bump is letting users send paid apps?

I would be extremely surprised if they do anything other than send the
market URL. To do otherwise would be more work, and a worse user
experience.

My own app, in an upcoming version, will send a link to itself. It was
trivial to implement, and I think it's a great marketing tool. I think
we'd all like every likely customer to get a market link to our paid
(and free) app.

I don't have two phones to bump together. Could someone try it out and
confirm?

Re: [android-developers] crashing map

I traced it down to this snippet of code...

for (int j=0; j<gpItems.size();j++){
GeoPoint Y = gpItems.get(j);
OverlayItem overlayPics = newOverlayItem(Y,"","");
          itemizedOverlay.addOverlay(overlayPics);
              Y=null;
}
mapOverlays.add(itemizedOverlay);

Supposedly the populate() is done in the AddOverlay method:

public void addOverlay(OverlayItem overlay) {
    mOverlays.add(overlay);
    populate();
}

I think I'll just have to reformulate all my Overlays classes.

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=8543 It is a stupid
bug that is super easy to fix, and as soon as Froyo was open sourced a
patch was submitted. Still Froyo was officially released and the bug
remains leaving developers who use this with an app that is no longer
compatible and no easy way to work around it for 2.2.

There are other bugs that also have not been acknowledged. This 'open'
thing is great but it is not of much use this way.

Re: [id-android] wta: send fax

Bisa. Unduh dulu applikasi Acrobat.com di market. Abis itu bikin akun di www.Acrobat.com, pake komputer/laptop aja bikinnya biar gampang. Selanjutnya tinggal mengoperasikan applikasi Print your files via fax. jangan lupa waktu masukin no. fax harus lengkap +kode negara & kota.

[android-developers] Pre-defined text styles?

Where can I see what typeface, size, color, etc. are used for
Android's pre-defined text styles? Like the default text style or
textAppearanceMedium, for example?

I see nothing. Probably another beta feature. Or no one is uninstalling my apps!
