At this point, I would start from scratch if I were you, maybe with the HelloMapView example. Create a brand new blank Activity and a new blank MapActivity, set them up with the bare minimum required to run, and launch the map from the main one. See if that works. If it does, start scouring your current code for differences. If not, I would uninstall and reinstall Eclipse and the SDK and start way over.
Do you think that there is a remote possibility of an issue with 2.2?
Doubtful. I do the same and am working with 2.2 and it works as expected.
Do you know of anyway to contact guys from Google on this?
If you get lucky a Google Engineer might chime in, but I doubt it. I've never seen any Googlers help out with Map related questions.
This functionality seems to be very basic to me...
