Re: [android-developers] Control level of Log class

Welcome to Java.  You *must* do the check yourself, or else you still end up executing all of the code to build the string to log which is a substantial amount of overhead.  We don't want to encourage people to litter their code with a bunch of log statements building these strings, slowing their app down, and being hidden because they aren't being shown.
