Re: [android-developers] Root permission for application

You absolutely can not do this.  There are some open-source mods to Android that do allow apps to get root, but because of the security repercussions those should never appear on a shipping device.

Shall we give root permissions for android application?
My requirement is i want to execute a c program using jni
That contains some functions like umount etc.
I tried in the following way
static{
System.loadLibrary("myjni");
}
Process p=Runtime.getRuntime().exec("su");
int value=getValue();

where getValue() is a native method contains umount() function call.
But this is returning -1 means permissions problem

Any help
